Open Air Fire Ban Lifted

The Huron County Fire Chiefs have announced that the Open-Air Fire Ban, which was put in place earlier this summer due to dry conditions, will be officially lifted at 12:01 AM on August 20, 2025.
With recent rainfall and improved conditions across the County, outdoor burning can now safely resume in accordance with municipal by-laws and any required permits.
Residents are reminded to continue using caution and to follow safe practices when burning:

Central Huron Will Continue Free Compost Service, Requiring Better Compliance From Users

The Central Huron compost site has been subject to misuse with some residents dropping off garbage, concrete, construction waste, plastic bags, and large stumps and logs. With the volume of large stumps and logs increasing, the cost of grinding these materials on-site has increased from $16,500 per year to over $40,000 per year.
In effort to curtail these costs, the Municipality of Central Huron has installed cameras and a $750.00 fine will be assessed to any person found dropping off garbage...
