Central Huron Will Continue Free Compost Service, Requiring Better Compliance From Users

The Central Huron compost site has been subject to misuse with some residents dropping off garbage, concrete, construction waste, plastic bags, and large stumps and logs. With the volume of large stumps and logs increasing, the cost of grinding these materials on-site has increased from $16,500 per year to over $40,000 per year. 

In effort to curtail these costs, the Municipality of Central Huron has installed cameras and a $750.00 fine will be assessed to any person found dropping off garbage and/or large trees et cetera. 

Central Huron is hopeful that the appropriate use of this free compost service will allow the site to continue and be of ongoing benefit to residents.
