OLG Funding Supports Accessible Kayak Launch and Inclusive Recreation in Central Huron
CLINTON, ON – As a proud host community of Gateway Casinos Clinton, the Municipality of Central Huron receives annual funding through the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's (OLG) Municipality Contribution Agreement. This year, the municipality is excited to highlight an accessibility project at Ball's Bridge that combines funding from multiple partners to create an accessible outdoor experience. A portion of the money from OLG is helping support the installation of Gridx accessibility matting.
While funding from the Rick Hansen Foundation supported the installation of an accessible kayak launch, OLG, along with Community Living Central Huron Board of Directors and ARC Angels, are funding the installation of Gridx permeable paving grids, creating a barrier-free pathway between the bridge, the picnic area and the new accessible kayak launch.
The accessible kayak launch and pathways reflect Central Huron's ongoing commitment to creating a community where everyone can participate fully. The municipality has become recognized as a leader in accessibility. This new launch will allow individuals of all ages and abilities to safely access the river and enjoy kayaking independently.
"Access to nature should be available to everyone," says Angela Smith, Community Improvement Coordinator for the Municipality of Central Huron. "The accessible kayak launch was an important first step, and OLG funding is helping us complete the connection to the water so that more residents and visitors can enjoy the river safely and independently."
Mayor Jim Ginn agrees.
"OLG funding continues to make a meaningful difference in our community," says Mayor Ginn. "The accessible kayak launch is more than just a piece of infrastructure, it's an investment in inclusion, recreation, tourism, and quality of life. This project demonstrates how partnerships can create meaningful change," says Ginn. "By combining support from the Rick Hansen Foundation, Community Living Central Huron, ARC Angels and OLG, we're creating an accessible recreational experience that will benefit residents and visitors for years to come."
In Fiscal 2026, Central Huron received $742,020 through OLG's Municipal Contribution Agreement. Since Gateway Casinos Clinton opened on August 24, 2000, the municipality has received $15,093,651 in host community revenues. These funds have been reinvested into local infrastructure, recreation, accessibility improvements, community facilities and projects that enhance the quality of life for residents.
“OLG truly values being a long-standing partner in Central Huron and to communities across Ontario. Every dollar of OLG’s profit is returned to Ontario to support the things people care about most, like critical infrastructure, local initiatives, and community events. Those dollars are making a difference here in Central Huron. The impact wouldn’t be possible without the great team at Gateway Casinos Clinton, whose work supports both the local economy and community well-being. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager.
