Albert Street Reconstruction

Central Huron is pleased to share that Albert Street in Clinton will be receiving an extensive facelift this summer beginning mid to late June, and requiring four to six months to complete. The project is being jointly undertaken by Huron County and Central Huron.

Before the reconstruction begins, Enbridge will be relocating gas regulators and some meters within the construction zone.  Although Enbridge is relocating the regulators/meters to the rear or sides of the buildings in most cases – the work will still involve construction on Albert St. where the infrastructure currently exists.  As a result, we may see some activity along Albert St. very soon.

The Albert Street reconstruction will span from Highway 8 to Princess St. West. Central Huron will be replacing the water main, sidewalks and streetlights up to Princess St. West as well as making improvements to Cenotaph Park.  Some underground work will also take place on Park Lane and Princess St. West.  The County will be replacing and adding storm sewers as well as repaving Albert Street from Hwy 8 to Base Line.

The Municipality realizes that this will be an inconvenience for the local community during an already challenging time. We are committed to communicating regularly throughout the construction stage and we will be partnering with the BIA to ensure business interruptions are minimized. We are hopeful our reconstruction investment further builds on the recent improvements made to the community park (i.e. splash pad, skateboard park, playground and pavilion), the recent addition of automatic door openers and contribute to a healthy and revitalized business core in Clinton.

Huron County Council and Central Huron Council have both awarded the street reconstruction project to Lavis Contracting Company Ltd.  Lavis was the low bidder with a total contract price of $3,250,580.10 +HST. The entire costs of the project including engineering, some additional materials and HST is $3,690,647.34. The project will be completed in partnership with Huron County with Central Huron’s share of the costs coming in at $1,899,330.31.

Central Huron's Back Alley Art Extravaganza

Back Alley Art Extravaganza Logo

Families and individuals all around the community are busy painting pictures on sheets of plywood. Completed projects will be installed in Clinton in the laneways behind the Albert Street stores, creating "The Back Alley Art Extravaganza." This will brighten up areas of our downtown and create an Artists Alley where everyone can show off their talents. We hope to receive mural quality artwork from our more experienced artists and exciting finger painting style exhibits from our youngest artists. Whether it's a landscape of our town, a graffiti style submission, abstract art of portraiture, all submissions combine will create a kaleidoscope of colour for the community!
